Synopsis

Germany has rejected Russian claims that a new naval operations center on Germany's Baltic coast violates a previous pledge not to station Nato troops in east Germany. The opening of the center in Rostock prompted Russia to summon the German ambassador to register what it called a 'decisive protest'. Russia is the only non-NATO state with a coast on the Baltic Sea.
